Barkley Invests in Fintech Company RAMP

Fintech is one niche, that you don't hear IT professionals mention much.

Fintech combines technology and finance to make banking, payments, and investing simpler. For example, Robo-advisors help people invest without needing a human advisor. Even though fintech focuses on money. It still relies on IT experts like programmers, cybersecurity specialists, and cloud engineers to keep systems running.

In the news this week is eagles running back Saquon Barkley. He invested in this company and is set to be in their commercial that's set to air during the Superbowl Sunday.

By the way, who you got to win?

My money is with the Eagles....

ADVICE AND TIPS:

The Best Piece of Advice I Was Given, at the Start of My IT Career

At the beginning of my tech career, a analyst at my job gave me some unforgettable piece of advice.

I had just started in operations, and was was determined not to make any mistakes. But like most of us know, in this industry mistakes is inevitable.

Then one day, this analyst said to me:

"If your not making mistakes, then your not going to learn."

From that day forward, I looked at mistakes in a different light. Instead of fearing them, I started to see them as part of the process. And over time, I realized three key things:

1. Mistakes Are the Best Teachers

I may not remember, the days on the job that went smooth without issues.

I defiantly remember. The days where I made a mistake, which may have caused an issue or even downtime. Every one of those mistakes became some of my greatest lessons.

All IT professionals make mistakes, but the best learn from them.

2. Confidence Comes from Trial and Error

Mistakes build confidence.

Confidence is much needed in his industry. Each mistake that I learned from, made me more confident. Solving these mistakes reinforced my problem solving skills.

This was a win win situation.

3. IT is About Solving Problems, Not Perfection

No body is perfect, and tech is always changing.

For most of us, in our careers. We will mainly, be in some sort of support role. Supporting users, and troubleshooting issues. With that said we can sum up our roles into the following words

Solving Problems and Constantly Learning

When I realized these three things. I started to take more risk and responsibilities.

This helped me to go on to multiple positions within the organization.

WHAT’S ON MY DESK:

The Best Shape of My Life

For the past couple of months.

I have made it my mission, to get in the best shape of my life. To accomplish this I reached out to a trainer. A little backstory is that, I've always been into fitness and working out.

But as you know, most of us tech folk think we can do anything.

That was me, until a couple months ago. So far I've seen some good progress, I would have seen more but its hard to stay on my diet. I'm a big guy and I love food so that's a double whammy.

As far as progress I went from 245 pounds to 228 pounds as of last week. I also just signed up for my first Spartan Race....

Wish me luck!!!
